If there's someone who knows a song for every mood and situation it's Hot Dub Time Machine. We asked the World's First Time Travelling Dance Party what tracks he'd recommend for cocktail parties, sex, BBQ's and everything in between. We're covering all bases with this playlist featuring Hozier, Olivia Newton-John, James Brown and more.

Best song(s) for a cocktail party

For a cocktail party I recommend Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: 'You and Me (and the Bottle Makes Three).' Give your cocktail party a "speak-easy" vibe with some stomping swing music. It's also a reference to 'Swingers,' that I will appreciate when you invite me along.

Best song(s) for sex

The current, official Hot Dub, greatest song to make babies with is Hozier's 'Take me to Church.' It builds to no less than 3 climaxes in just over four minutes. It's slow, sexy and dramatic and over fairly quickly, just how I like it. With lines like "She tells me worship in the bedroom/ the only heaven I'll be sent to/ Is when I'm alone with you," you'll be having a "deathless death" in no time. Take me to church!!

Best song for getting people off their butts and onto the dancefloor

I think "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, and 'I Feel Good,' by James Brown are cross-generational dance floor fillers. There must be someone out there who dislikes these songs, but I've never met them.

Best song(s) for an intimate dinner party

For a dinner party we want some music that will sit in the background, not over power the conversation, yet fill in the gaps and be a topic of conversation in itself. I recommend the obscure jazz band: The Bad Plus. They do amazing jazz covers of great songs, and are ferociously talented. Play their cover of 'Smells like Teen Spirit' and your intimate dinner party will be great.

Best song(s) for a mate’s BBQ on Sunday afternoon

Well, if you're going to take over the stereo at a mate's bbq, you've got to come with some fire. It's a bold move to pull the mini-jack cable away from the hosts iphone, so be confident. Unplug his tired playlist of 90's rock and drop some Hiphop. I recommend 'Get 'Em High" by Kanye. The girl's hips will start moving, beer consumption will go up, and before you know it, you've got a proper Sunday Session happening.

Best song for working out

For working out I recommend an entire DJ mix, rather than a single song. The internet is filled with podcasts where you can get a fresh hour-long mix by a great DJ. I naturally recommend the 'Hot Dub Time Machine: RADIO' podcast. It's only sporadically updated, but the mixes are time-travelling, cheese-filled epics, that will make you forget the pain in your legs and keep going on that elliptical machine. The 90's episode is a good place to start: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/hot-dub-time-machine-radio/id6511790...

Best song to send to your worst enemy to tell them how you feel

This seems like a weird way to tell someone you hate them. In fact, I advise against telling people that you dislike them. Bitching behind their back is a much safer alternative. But if you feel the need, I recommend sending them 'Sober' by Tool, accompanied by photo of their house, taken from the park across the road. It will give the perfect, angry, paranoid message to tell Sonia from HR that you're onto her shit. And if she steals your food from the work fridge once more, there will be repercussions.

Best song to attract a girl/guy

For fellas trying to attract either a man or woman: I recommend learning all the words to Amy Winehouse's 'You Know I'm no Good.' Put it on the jukebox, then do an impromptu drag show in the middle of the pub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-I2s5zRbHg. It's equally alluring for either sex and you will go home with someone, I guarantee. For ladies trying to attract either a man or a woman, I recommend learning all the lyrics to '99 Problems' by Jay-Z. Men respect a woman who likes hiphop, and ladies like a lady who has plenty of problems, except with the bitches.

Best song to cheer anybody up

Your friend is feeling a little bit down? Well, when you're having a black day, the best way out is to do some exercise. Go over to their place, give them a fluorescent head band and a leotard then fire up 'Let's Get Physical' by Olivia Newton-John. They may not immediately appreciate it, but after 3 minutes and 43 seconds they'll be feeling much better.

Best song for a rainy day

Most definitely 'Let the Sunshine In,' from the Movie of Hair the musical. Watch the whole movie if you like, snuggle up under the doona with someone warm and appreciate the brilliant, camp, opera-funk of 'Let the sunshine.'
